"Spring Project" group - North Coast
Our volunteering year is almost over, this project was the last project of our EVS volunteer team 2011-2012: Manja (Germany) & Eloise (Belgium). And we can say that for our last project we’ve been really lucky. We went to an adventurous trip to the North Coast with the “Spring Project” Youth Club from Armagh, a wee group of 12 young girls and us. Our first stop was the harbour of Ballycastle, from where we took the ferry to the beautiful Rathlin Island. After a “typical” rainy week we couldn’t have been luckier, the sun was with us during all the weekend! once we finished our wee lunch break, we start exploring the Island, we meet a lot of seals sleeping on the rocks. It was quite impressive to see the seals from so close and in total liberty, unfortunately they were quickly scared of us… We walk to the lighthouse, a lovely wee walk, crossing the quite and beautiful landscape of the Island. It was already time to take the ferry back, seating on the small ferry with the sun and the island disappearing on our back, it was really a lovely image of holiday. After the dinner, the weather was still really nice that we couldn’t go for a walk to the Giant’s Causeway. Sunday was really adventurous for the group, we had plan a day of great outdoor activities. We start with some rock climbing on the cliffs in front of the see, all the girls were really participatory and the activity did really well. After for the more adventurous we did a bit of abseiling, and we needed a lot of courage to date to launch into space. The afternoon, the sun still with us, the group change the location to do an amazing water activity: coasteering on the see! The girls had all a good equipment, to make sure that they will not get cold during the activity, and once everybody was ready the challenge start… The principle of the coasteering is to jump from the cliffs, small and than bigger into the water. It may seem easy but when you’re on the top, not always simple to make the first step. This project did really well, the group was great, did a lots a different activities on the stunning location of the North Coast, with the sun. Our last project and we couldn’t have asked for better.
