RADOVLJICA – The Sunniest Town in Slovenia!

Youth Hostel “Vidičeva hiša” is in the old center of the town, on Linhart’s square 3, in a renaissance castle from 1634. We’re proud that it’s the only hostel in Slovenia, where you can sleep in such a historic building.

The quiet location of the mannor iz a great starting point for hiking, swimming, biking…

We have two rooms for three people, two apartments for two people, and one apartment for seven people. All of them have their own toilet, shower, satellite, TV and wireless internet access.

There is also a café, a pastry shop and a sociable cellar there. We can prepare Linhart’s feast for you (upon previous arrangements), where you’ll get the selected menu, and be served by people in 18th century clothes while listening to the music of that period in candle light and eating with a wooden spoon and bare hands, reliving the past.

You can have all three daily courses at the hostel and we’re offering the full information about the tourist attractions nearby, as well as sell postcards and souvenirs.

The description of the town and its surroundings

The Radovljica plane is also called the heart of the country. Its geological shape dates back to the last ice age. You enter the town through the upper town gate that used to be protected by a drawbridge. You can also enter using the only late-medieval defense trench in Slovenia that has been restored. Regardless which way in you take, you’ll reach the restored town center, full of medieval and renaissance architectural monuments. Among them is also our manor, with the hostel, café, pastry shop and sociable cellar. The baroque manor next to it is the town museum of Anton Tomaž Linhart, the bee museum, music school and many halls with various concerts and similar events. In the summer time the town hosts a festival of old music and there are many fairs, knight games, concerts and other events taking place in the town square. Near the manor is also the church of St. Peter, build in the Romanesque style and was completed some three quarters of a millennium ago.

Near by are also the swimming pool (available all year around), sport’s park and children’s park, medics, pharmacy, a bus and a train station, post office, bank, as well as many shops and cafés.

The sunny location and the healthy Alpine climate, make Radovljica perfect for a relaxing getaway in nature, visiting the: natural learning trail, castle “pusti grad”, seeing the “Fuksova brv”, tracking the learning trail Grabnarica…

You can also visit many places that are further away, for the town has very good transport connections.

Lesce: 2km away from the hostel, has the biggest golf range in Slovenia – known as the kings range. It also has a sport airfield with a collection of old aircrafts. They are also hosting several events all year round.

Begunje: just 5km away and also have many world famous sights. You can visit the museum and gallery of Slavko and Vinko Avsenik, the founders of Oberkrein music. Nearby is also the Hostage museum, where Gestapo had its prisons during WWII, with almost 12.000 unlucky souls. Begunje are also famous for the ELAN factory that produces various sport equipment, but is best known for its skies (that numerous winter athletes achieved Olympic medal with – athletes like: Ingemar Stenmark, Bojan Križaj, Jure Franko, Mateja Svet, Primož Peterka, Andreas Goldberger…). And there’s also a sport center with a skiing slope nearby.

Brezje: it’s a village known for its pilgrimage church “Marija pomaga”j.

Kropa: 10km away and the cradle of blacksmiths and iron industry of Slovenia. The oldest foundings place the settlement in the antique period, but it was more important in the medieval period, with the oldest Slovenian furnace in Europe, and its handmade nails were known all throughout the Mediterranean.

In short that would be all about Radovljica and its neighboring towns, you can reach by foot and admire their natural beauty.
