Walking Tours of Historic Derry City Walls available from Whitepark Bay* and Bushmills Youth Hostels

Hostel guests can now purchase walking tours of the historic Derry City walls at Whitepark Bay and Mill Rest Youth Hostel in Bushmills.

A walking tour around the walls in Londonderry/Derry reveals a splendid city crammed full of history, heritage, interest and a vibrant cultural scene.

Londonderry/Derry is the only remaining completely walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of Walled Cities in Europe. The Walls were built during the period 1613-1618 by the honourable, the Irish Society as defences for early seventeenth century settlers from England and Scotland.

During the tour you can learn about The Bloody Sunday Story and the Siege of Derry in 1689. Walk on the historic walls and see the impressive cathedrals and churches. Explore the story of emigration to the fledging American state from the port of Derry. An economic history of ship building and shirt making is also part of the Derry/Londonderry story.

Tickets cost £4.00 per person and tours depart daily at 10am, 12noon and 2pm from 11 Carlisle Road in Derry. Guided tours last for approx 1 hour. No need to pre book, just turn up at the above time slots. Group rates are available.
